Pat On The Back Foundation College Expo




Pat On The Back Foundation welcomes youth from youth nonprofit organizations to participate in its 2nd Annual ‘College Bound’ youth trip, to offer youth an opportunity to get more information on higher education institutions and scholarship information in preparation for life after high school. We will sponsor 10-19 youth to attend this event. Tickets to event, lunch, and transportation will be provided to all attendees.

Diamond Parent Leadership Learning Series (English & Spanish)


Do you have kids that attend our neighborhood schools in Southeastern San Diego? Want to learn how to further your child’s school success?

Engaged Parents = Successful Students.

Parents are invited to participate in the Diamond Parent Leadership Learning Series starting in February at the Jacobs Center.  It is a free 8-week course for parents of children in local schools to learn how to be an active partner for student and school success.

Each class will focus on a different topic or theme to help you become better equipped to participate fully in your child’s education. Learn from education experts, teachers, parent leaders, school advocates, and community leaders.
Course topics include:

  • Understanding the school system
  • Preparing your child for success
  • Critical milestones for success and overcoming barriers
  • Building a Parent Leaders Network
  • Connecting to community resources

Es una oportunidad para que los padres de niños en las escuelas locales se enteren como ser un partidario activo y efectivo para el éxito de su estudiante y el éxito escolar.

The SAT test prep program will use multiple resources to help students reach the goal of 1800. The students will be administered full length SAT tests and they will attend two classes on Math, Critical Reading, Writing and Essay writing. A final review session will be offered a week before the January 24, 2015 SAT test.

Noche de Ciencias is a nationally recognized event serving to engage the Hispanic community in a fun and relaxed environment with science and engineering activities and to promote college awareness in a bilingual setting. The goal of Noche de Ciencias is to provide access and awareness of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields in order to broaden the participation of Hispanics along all segments of the science and engineering pathway. We host workshops for parents in both Spanish and English, to teach them how to help their children achieve a higher education. In the meantime we engage the students in fun science related activities.



Diamond Youth Program: Celebration Dinner – YOU’RE INVITED!



JOIN US as we celebrate the completion of our inaugural 5-week course – a journey into the world of STE[+a]M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, Math). Follow the youth who participated by watching video highlights showcasing their journey, recognizing them for their ambition, and getting an early preview of our next exciting program.

Chollas Creek Focus Groups for 5th-12 graders

Youth, We Need Your Voice!

Tell us what the Chollas Creek should look like and be in our community. Are you a student in grades 5-12 who lives in southeastern San Diego? Join us for a Chollas Creek focus group! Chollas Creek runs through our community and your opinions will inform decisions on how to improve the Creek.

We are recruiting students to participate in focus groups about what we value about the creek.Students will receive a $10 gift card for their participation!

Scholarship Opportunity for Women & Minority Students

The Goodman Scholarship is targeted exclusively to woman and minority students graduating from a California or Arizona Community College and transferring to a 4 year University, with a particular focus on first generation students attending college. Students must be graduating the Spring of 2014 and entering into their University the Fall of 2014. The scholarship is open to all majors. Economic need and community involvement are two key factors in the decision process. The average scholarship is $4,000. 4-5 scholarships are provided per year.
